Founded by 31-year-old programmer Maor Shlomo in late 2024, Base44 enables users to build full-stack applications and games through natural language prompts, eliminating traditional coding barriers.
The platform, which launched publicly in March 2025, amassed 250,000 users within six months, including 100,000 paying subscribers and enterprise clients like eToro and Similarweb. Wix, seeking to expand its AI ecosystem beyond website-building tools, praised Base44’s “atmospheric coding” technology and global user base. The deal includes $25 million in retention bonuses for Base44’s team and performance-based payouts through 2029. Shlomo, who previously founded analytics firm Explorium, described the acquisition as a strategic leap to scale Base44’s vision of democratizing software creation.
This acquisition underscores the AI sector’s accelerating pace of disruption, with Wix’s move following OpenAI’s $3 billion purchase of rival Windsurf earlier this year.
