In the product lineup of the realme GT series, Pro represents flagship and Neo is positioned at the mid-range, both targeting the 2000 yuan price range. On April 11th, the Neo series received an update and launched the GT Neo6 SE.
This new phone comes in two colors, silver and green, with a matte and glossy two-stage design. The aesthetic is subjective, but as a product starting at 1699 yuan, this design helps to enhance its recognition.
In terms of size, the Neo6 SE weighs about 190g and does not feel too heavy when held in the hand. Its thickness reaches 8.65mm, making it a relatively slim design.
Compared to the previous generation, the stripe design has been removed, making it visually simpler, while the realme logo is still retained in the lower left corner of the new phone.
The screen is the focus of the GT Neo6 SE upgrade. The new device features a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen and is equipped with an uncommon 0.5-120Hz adaptive refresh rate in this price range.
It is worth noting that the manual maximum brightness of GT Neo6 SE is about 1000nit, while the local peak brightness reaches 6000nit, and the mainstream parameter on the market is around 4000nit. Therefore, this product can have better brightness performance outdoors, reducing the situation where the screen cannot be seen clearly under strong light. It also supports 100% SRGB color gamut and 99% P3 color gamut.
The GT Neo6 SE is equipped with the third-generation Snapdragon 7+chip. In the actual testing phase, the average frame rate of the new game in the 120 frame mode of “King of Glory” was 119.3fps, while “Peace Elite” gave an average frame rate performance of 89.9fps (30 minute game) (test results are for reference only).
The GT Neo6 SE also brings GT Mode 5.0 for gaming, which not only improves resolution and frame rate, but also introduces Super HDR for gaming for the first time. According to our testing, after turning on ‘Game Super HDR’, the game’s graphics will be highlighted to enhance the immersion of the game.
In terms of imaging, the realme GT Neo6 SE is equipped with dual cameras:
Main camera with 50 million pixels, sensor with Sony IMX882, supporting OIS optical image stabilization;
The wide-angle is 8 million pixels, and the sensor is the Sony IMX355.
As a product starting at 1699 yuan, the GT Neo6 SE is not equipped with any additional lenses such as telephoto lenses. The 2x focal length is cut from the main camera. The following is a real-life sample:
The new device has a 5500mAh large battery and supports 100W flash charging. It has been tested to charge about 65% of the battery in 15 minutes and can be fully charged in half an hour. Under the premise of configuring a large battery, there is not much problem with daily use of one day, one half, and one charge.
It is not difficult to see that the upgrade focus of the realme GT Neo6 SE is still on the combination of a large battery and good performance, which is also a common strategy for manufacturers targeting the mid-range market.
But the current market style has undergone a transformation. For example, in the past month, OnePlus and Redmi have released mid-range products that offer additional long boards with screens or stronger processors, on top of the same price of 1999 yuan and large batteries.
Xu Qi, the President of realme China, once stated that about 50% of domestic users use mid-range smartphones, which is the basic market for domestic smartphones and also the most “saturated” market.
In the face of intense mid-range competition, manufacturers will add one or two more upgrades. I chose a better screen and 6000nit local peak brightness on the GT Neo6 SE. And the previously released mid-range phone, the Realme 12 Pro+, has a rare periscope camera as its long board. As for whether this strategy can break through in the mid-range market, sales will soon give an answer.
