On November 6th, OpenAI, a star company that has been at the center of the ups and downs of the US stock market, announced on Wednesday that one million companies worldwide are directly using its services.
The announcement states that the statistical scope includes all organizations that actively pay for commercial purposes, as well as enterprises that directly consume models through the developer platform. The company previously disclosed in early September that the number of users, including ChatGPT enterprise users and campus version ChatGPT Edu, exceeded one million.

OpenAI also revealed that with ChatGPT’s weekly active users exceeding 800 million, the widespread acceptance of the consumer market is driving enterprises to adopt AI – enterprise trial periods are becoming shorter and deployment resistance is decreasing.
The company revealed that the current number of commercial user seats for ChatGPT for Work has exceeded 7 million.
OpenAI Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap previously revealed in August that the number of seats at that time had just exceeded 5 million. That is to say, the paid B2B business of AI leaders has grown by 40% in just two months. Among them, the number of ChatGPT Enterprise seats increased by 9 times year-on-year.
In order to promote the purchase of services by enterprises, OpenAI has launched a series of tools for office environments this year, including a “company knowledge base” that can integrate data from “DingTalk” Slack, Google Cloud, and GitHub for inference, as well as a GPT-5 version optimized for enterprise collaboration environments.
OpenAI also revealed that the adoption speed of the Codex model for code generation, refactoring, and workflow automation has skyrocketed recently, with usage increasing tenfold since August. OpenAI stated that Cisco has introduced Codex into its development workflow and reduced code review time by 50%.
Other typical user cases include well-known investment institution Carlyle. OpenAI introduced that through the recently released enterprise intelligence building platform AgentKit, Carlyle has reduced the development time of multi-agent due diligence framework by more than 50% and improved the accuracy of agents by 30%.
Fidji Simo, CEO of the company’s application ecosystem, stated that the most successful enterprises use AI to achieve exponential growth, rather than just cost cutting. They are launching new products faster and working on implementing many excellent ideas that were previously put on hold.
OpenAI also stated that in addition to purchasing AI services, more and more companies are also joining the ChatGPT ecosystem in reverse.
Firms such as Figma and Spotify have directly connected their applications to ChatGPT, and Wal Mart, Paypal, Shopify and other enterprises have also directly provided shopping options to AI tool users through ChatGPT’s proxy business agreements.
OpenAI launched an instant checkout feature in September, allowing users to complete purchases without leaving the chat window. ChatGPT charges a small commission on every transaction made through its website. In the context where most ChatGPT users do not pay, the company has stated to investors that from 2026 to 2030, commercial revenue generated through unpaid users will bring in $110 billion in revenue.
