
Fast fashion brand Xiyin has been exposed to have third-party sellers selling sex toys. Xiyin’s first physical store opened on Wednesday (November 5th) inside the high-end department store BHV in Paris, France, with protesters protesting outside the mall.
After Chinese cross-border fast fashion giant Shein removed pornographic dolls and prohibited weapons with child characteristics, French officials stated that Shein is allowed to continue operating, but will closely follow up on its subsequent operations.
Last week, the French Directorate General for Competition, Consumption, and Anti Fraud exposed that third-party sellers on the Xiyin platform were selling sex dolls that resembled children in appearance, and it was later reported that dangerous weapons could also be purchased on the platform.
Before the opening of Xiyin’s first physical store in Paris on Wednesday (November 5th), social groups protested and the French authorities also initiated the suspension of Xiyin’s operations in France until the platform proves that all content complies with French laws and regulations.
The French Ministry of Economy and Finance’s news website released a statement on Friday (November 7th) stating that Xiyin has completed its rectification by completely suspending its third-party market, and the platform no longer has any illegal goods (including items with child pornography, cold weapons, drugs, etc.). The French government allows Xiyin to continue operating, but Xiyin will continue to be under “close supervision”.
The government department will closely follow up on the subsequent operation of the platform to ensure that all current preventive measures are maintained. The government will take all necessary actions to prevent any illegal goods from being resold
Meanwhile, the official judicial proceedings against Xiyin will continue. The French Ministry of the Interior has officially filed a lawsuit with the Paris Judicial Court; The Paris prosecutor’s office has commissioned the Office of Juvenile Affairs to conduct four investigations. France has also submitted an investigation request to the European Commission, which acknowledges the seriousness of the incident.
On Thursday (November 6th), French customs launched a large-scale surprise inspection of packages from Heyin at Charles de Gaulle Airport. The seized goods are currently being inspected, and all confirmed violations will be punished according to law.
According to Agence France Presse, France has fined Hisense three times this year, totaling 191 million euros (287 million Singapore dollars), for violating online tracking regulations, posting false discounts, providing misleading information, and failing to declare products containing plastic microfibers.
In addition, Alibaba’s AliExpress and Pinduoduo overseas e-commerce platforms Temu will also face investigations involving the sale of sex dolls and the dissemination of pornographic content to minors.
