U.S. Attorney General Bondi said Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been indicted in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
She revealed that Maduro is charged with “conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism, conspiracy to traffic cocaine, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices in connection with attacks against the United States.”
Bondi said Maduro and his wife will soon face trial in a U.S. court on American soil.
Loud explosions were heard in Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, in the early hours of Saturday, January 3. U.S. media later cited unnamed sources reporting that Maduro had been captured by U.S. Army Delta Force special operations troops.
According to reports, the Delta Force previously carried out the 2019 mission that resulted in the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the top leader of the Islamic State group.
