In response to the U.S. raid on Venezuela on Saturday, Singapore expressed grave concern and opposed any actions that violate international law, including military intervention against any country.

Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Sunday afternoon (January 4) regarding the situation in Venezuela. The Ministry stated that Singapore firmly upholds international law and adheres to the principles enshrined in the UN Charter, which safeguard the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of all states, especially small countries.

The statement read: “Singapore is gravely concerned about the United States’ intervention in Venezuela on January 3... Singapore has always opposed actions by any party that contravene international law, including military intervention against any country.”

Singapore urges all parties to exercise restraint and hopes that the situation in Venezuela can be resolved peacefully in accordance with international law and the principles of the UN Charter.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Singaporeans to defer travel to Venezuela.

Currently, no Singaporeans in Venezuela have registered electronically with the Ministry. The Ministry advises citizens to defer all travel plans to Venezuela.
