At that time, I made up my mind to become an independent station. At that time, I was full of passion. I bought the domain name, set the template, and researched Shopify, WordPress, plugins, and payment channels every day. Even the logo was pieced out bit by bit using Canva.
After more than three months, the website finally went live. Looking at the homepage and product page displaying normally, and the payment logic running smoothly, I thought I could finally make money from it.
But reality dealt me a severe blow: in the first 30 days of going online, the traffic was only in single digits. Posting content on Xiaohongshu, making videos on TikTok, and doing SEO all have no effect. Not only can't attract people, but Facebook ads are also like throwing water, with high costs and no orders.
I began to doubt if the path of selling goods on an independent website was not suitable for me.
It wasn't until one day while browsing the forum that I came across a sentence that said '70% of traffic failure is not due to product issues, it's due to a lack of connectivity between the environment and channels'. That's when I realized my blind spot: I only focus on building websites and creating content, and have never seriously optimized the underlying environment such as access channels, loading speed, and security issues.
Just like when advertising on Facebook or TikTok to attract traffic, the ads often fail to run due to IP issues, slow speed, and abnormal risk control, resulting in poor data. How can we expect users to make purchases when we can't even open the page ourselves?
Afterwards, I began to study network environment optimization, from server configuration to dedicated access line construction, trial debugging one by one. During that time, I immersed myself in the technical area, Telegram groups, and Github, constantly trying and making mistakes.
After understanding these, running ads reduced CPC by half, ads were less likely to be blocked, and page loading speed also improved.
At this moment, I realized that an independent website is not about "waiting for customers after construction", but about system engineering, where technology and traffic are indispensable.
My website has been running steadily for a while now and I have some orders. Not a big seller, but I finally managed to make it through.
So if you are also running an independent website, especially if you have a good website but "no one comes", it is recommended not to doubt yourself for now, and not to rush to spend money on advertising. First, see if there is a problem in this area.
I am not an operations engineer, nor am I an advertising pitcher. I have also learned from scratch. If you are also stuck in this step, why not talk about your situation and see if I can provide some ideas to help you clarify the path.
