On Friday (December 5th), US President Trump announced his national security strategy for his second term, stating that the United States will abandon its traditional role as a global leader and instead strengthen its dominant position in Latin America, while vigorously cracking down on foreign immigration.

This national security document outlines the changes in the United States' global security positioning, clarifying Trump's unconventional "America First" worldview and marking a significant shift in the United States' strategic direction towards refocusing on Asia in recent years. Nevertheless, the US still regards China as its main competitor.

According to the latest national security strategy, the United States rejects the idea of dominating the global order and believes that it is doomed to fail. At the same time, the United States will prevent other major powers from taking a dominant position, but emphasizes that "this does not mean (the United States) wasting blood and wealth to weaken the influence of all major and medium-sized powers in the world

The new national security strategy will adjust the US military deployment globally to address urgent threats in the Western Hemisphere, starting with resolving immigration issues. In addition, it is necessary to reduce the military deployment scale in regions where the importance of US national security has been decreasing for decades.

In recent months, Trump has repeatedly ordered the US military to combat maritime drug trafficking in Latin America, intervene in the internal affairs of Latin American countries in an attempt to overthrow left-wing leaders, including Venezuela, and seek control of key resources such as the Panama Canal.

The new national security strategy portrays Trump as a modern version of the 19th century Monroe Doctrine in the United States. The Monroe Doctrine was proposed by the fifth President James Monroe in 1823, which stated that the United States had control over American affairs and that other countries, including Europe, were not allowed to intervene or engage in new colonial activities in the Americas.

For China, the United States reiterates its commitment to promoting freedom and openness in the Asia Pacific region, but sees China more as an economic competitor.

The document states, "We must demand that these countries increase their defense spending, with a focus on strengthening their military capabilities... to deter adversaries and protect the first island chain

New strategy criticizes European allies

Under Trump's leadership, the United States will oppose immigration, which is consistent with the agenda of far right political parties in Europe. The United States has harshly criticized its European allies in its national security strategy, indicating that it will support opposing EU led values, including going against EU leaders on immigration issues.

The latest strategy of the United States has paid less attention to the Middle East issue. The document points out that the United States is working hard to increase domestic energy supply and will not rely on the oil-rich Persian Gulf region. However, the United States will prioritize ensuring Israel's security.

The President of the United States usually releases a national security strategy during his term of office. The previous strategy released by former President Biden in 2022 prioritized winning the competition between China and the United States while containing Russia.

Regarding the latest national security strategy of the United States, German Foreign Minister Walder immediately responded on Friday, stating that Germany does not need advice from other countries.

I don't think issues related to freedom of speech or the way we organize our free society should appear (in US strategic documents), at least in Germany's view, "said Walder
