Dell China Layoffs! Behind the N+3 compensation, there has just been news of Dell China's layoffs. According to the South China Morning Post, the layoffs are mainly concentrated in the EMC storage department and CSG client solution group in Shanghai and Xiamen. The affected Baozi will be employed no later than October 10th, but during this period, they can apply for internal job transfers, which also leaves some buffer.
The compensation plan is a bit sincere: those who have been employed for 7 months will receive N+2, while others can receive N+3, but this cannot offset the intensity of layoffs! This is already the third round of layoffs by Dell China in recent months, and the data looks bleak - the global workforce has shrunk from 120000 to 108000, and the Chinese region is even worse, with a sharp decline from 12000 to only about 5000 people left!
Previously, the Xiamen factory laid off 30% of its workforce, while the Chengdu factory stopped production directly. This year, the Xiamen headquarters even laid off up to 50% of its workforce... This wave of operations is really ruthless!
In the final analysis, the market is not awesome. Dell's global PC share fell from 18% in 2022 to 14.5% in Q2 this year, which is even worse in China. Last year, it still had 8% of its share, but now it has fallen directly out of the top five, and its shipments have plummeted 44% year on year! There is no hidden problem in the financial report. Although the overall revenue increased by 25%, the revenue of the CSG department that was laid off this time actually decreased by 9%, and the pain of transformation is too obvious.
Moreover, not only Dell, but also many American companies have been shrinking their business in China recently: Micron Technology has laid off employees, IBM has closed its Chinese investment company, Microsoft has withdrawn its Shanghai AI laboratory... Some people say it is due to the high pressure on business operations, while others believe it is due to the restructuring of the global industrial chain.
Sincerely sorry for the laid-off workers, I hope everyone can find their next home smoothly! I also want to ask everyone, have you ever encountered a situation where a company has laid off employees around you? Chat in the comment section~
