Acclaim wrapped up its return showcase with a look at a cosmic horror adventure aboard a mysterious space station. A lone samurai warrior with his trusty katana at his side must fend off growing hordes of the undead. Katanaut is described as an action roguelite Metroidvania and it's available for PC players right now.
Katanaut follows main character Naut across the remains of what was once an active space station. Naut must survive as he attempts to dive further into the space station. If he falls short, he'll be brought back to life at the start of the station to try again. Players must master their developing abilities and balance them with Souls-style sword combat.
While the sudden PC release is a surprise for anybody watching the Play Acclaim showcase, developer Voidmaw had actually had this release date in mind for several weeks. The game was first revealed back at the Future Games Show presentation during this year's Gamescom. The developer spent the time between that announcement and Wednesday's presentation giving the game a final round of polish. The game had previously left an impression on PC players through a Steam Next Fest demo released earlier this year.
Katanaut is out today on PC, but it's also slated to come to consoles. A console release date will be revealed in the future.
