In the international arms market, it is common for benevolence and righteousness to fail in transactions. But have you heard of it? A country first bought tanks from China for a military parade, but after the glory was over, they turned around and returned them, with a particularly "grandiose" reason.

When it wanted to rent advanced drones from China again, the response it received was classic. The protagonist of this story is Peru in South America.

In 2009, Peru launched a global tender to update its aging tank fleet. China's MBT-2000 main battle tank (also known as VT-1) also participated in the bidding, which is a third-generation main battle tank with excellent performance and high cost-effectiveness.

In order to demonstrate sincerity and meet the testing needs of the other party, China first provided Peru with 5 MBT-2000 tanks. After crossing the ocean and arriving in Peru, these tanks were immediately deployed for an important purpose - to participate in the country's National Day parade.

At the military parade, Chinese tanks painted with the Peruvian military emblem drove confidently through the square, showing off the strength of the Peruvian military and conveying a signal of close military cooperation between China and Peru to the outside world.

However, just as the dust of the military parade had settled, an unexpected scene occurred: Peru announced that China's MBT-2000 tank "did not meet performance standards" and decided to return it! This reason seemed quite far fetched at the time. MBT-2000 is a mature product that has been successfully exported to multiple countries and has received frequent praise. Why do we have to adapt to the local conditions in Peru?

Those with discerning eyes can see that Peru may just want Chinese tanks to prop up the parade, complete the "tactical prostitution", and then find an excuse to return the goods. Its real purpose may be to lean towards purchasing products from other countries (at that time, Ukraine's T-84 "Fortress" tank was also one of the competitors). This order ultimately fell through. And we still have to spend a huge amount of shipping costs to transport the tanks back.

As the saying goes, there are no more than three incidents. Arms trade is a reflection of high trust between countries, emphasizing honesty and integrity. Peru's actions undoubtedly consumed this trust.

The exciting follow-up of the story has arrived. After a few years, Peru has developed a strong interest in China's "pterosaur" or "rainbow" series of military drones in counter-terrorism and border patrol. However, this time it may be due to budget issues or a desire to repeat the old trick, and the proposed cooperation method is "leasing" rather than direct purchase.

It should be noted that military drones are high-tech sensitive equipment, involving core secrets such as data links, combat systems, and maintenance support, and are usually not easily leased out. With the lessons learned from previous tank transactions, China has given a clear and decisive response to Peru's request - 'only sell, not rent'.

These four words may seem simple, but they are as heavy as a thousand tons. The message it conveys is very clear: China's advanced equipment is not a "prop" that you can use at will. We value our technological achievements and only engage in deep cooperation with sincere partners. The path of obtaining temporary services under the guise of 'trial' is no longer feasible.

Early Chinese military trade aimed to enter the international market with cost-effectiveness advantages, but sometimes faced harsh conditions and unfair treatment. The MBT-2000 tank incident is a typical example.

With the explosive development of China's military technology, especially in the field of drones, we have firmly established ourselves as the world's top tier. The "Wing Dragon" and "Rainbow" series have become "hot selling items" in the international market and have absolute discourse power.

China did not completely close the door to cooperation with Peru just because of an unpleasant transaction, but instead defended its own interests in new fields and with new rules. The four words' only sell, not rent 'not only uphold principles, but also screen partners, reflecting the mature wisdom of a great country.

The dignity of a country and the value of technology are won through hard power. When you have top-notch technology, the rules are naturally set by you.
