Many people have never been to Chengdu and think that there are many scenic spots in Sichuan, so they assume that the urban area of Chengdu is also a very famous tourist city. But in fact, there are no mountains within the Chengdu Ring Expressway, and the water scenery is only at the level of Jinjiang River and Funan River, which cannot be considered good.
People who have stayed in Jiangnan know that many cities have beautiful mountains and waters in the city center, such as West Lake Baoshan in Hangzhou, Zijin Mountain in Nanjing, Huqiu in Suzhou, Huishan in Wuxi, Beigu Mountain in Zhenjiang, Dayu Mausoleum in Shaoxing, etc. Even Guishan in Wuhan, Yuelu Mountain in Changsha, and Baiyun Mountain in Guangzhou can be considered as mountain resources in the urban area.
There is not a single mountain within the third ring road of Chengdu Ring Expressway! For old Chengdu, the real Chengdu is within the Third Ring Road, so if you ask old Chengdu, they will tell you that there are no mountains in Chengdu. However, Longquan Mountain, which is closest to Chengdu, is still visually only a small mound due to the fact that the Chengdu Plain itself has an altitude of 500 meters.
However, Xiling Snow Mountain, Dujiangyan Irrigation Project, and Qingcheng Mountain are all located in very remote counties and cities, and can only take the bullet train to Xipu (the subway is slower) to transfer. The actual experience is no different from going to other cities. What's more, Dujiangyan Irrigation Project City is just an entrusted county and city, not Chengdu's own Guanxian County. Local people will also say "enter the city" or "go to Chengdu" when they go to Chunxi Road.
So what exactly is Chengdu? In my personal opinion, it is a transit point for other scenic spots in Sichuan. For example, Jiuzhaigou Valley Scenic and Historic Interest Area Scenic Area, Daocheng Yading, Sichuan Tibet Line, etc. all start from Chengdu or transfer from Chengdu.
If I have to say it, Chengdu tourism has attractions such as Wuhou Temple, Du Fu Thatched Cottage, Yongling Mausoleum, Wangjiang Tower, Panda Base, and Jiuyan Bridge, which were built in the last century and are not painful or itchy.
Only shopping and eating snacks may be more suitable. Of course, I don't think the most tourists go to Chengdu for shopping malls.
