特朗普警告Netflix收购华纳或引发反垄断问题.jpg

US President Trump has pointed out that the acquisition of Warner Bros. by streaming giant Netflix may raise antitrust issues and has stated that he will participate in the review of the acquisition.

Netflix plans to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery's film and streaming business for a high price of $82.7 billion (approximately SGD 107.2 billion). This will be Netflix's largest acquisition in history.

On Sunday (December 7th), when discussing the acquisition plan, Trump pointed out that there may be an issue of excessive concentration of market forces in the entertainment industry. Netflix already has a large market share, and if it were to acquire Warner Bros. again, its share would soar significantly. ”

This statement may further worry the market, as regulators may oppose Netflix's merger with the Hollywood giant. According to Polymarket data, the probability of Netflix completing its acquisition by the end of 2026 is 23%, and before Trump's comments, it is about 60%.

Netflix executive Sarandos reportedly met with Trump at the White House recently to lobby for the acquisition plan. Insiders revealed that Sarandos argued at the time that Netflix was not a monopoly giant and had also experienced a loss of subscribers several years ago.

Warner Bros. 'choice of Netflix and neglect of Paramount may trigger a political game in Washington. Paramount has the support of the world's second richest person, Allison, and claims to have a strong relationship with Trump.

Trump confirmed on Sunday that he had met with Sarandos and stated that he would personally participate in the approval process of Netflix's acquisition of Warner Bros.

Despite questions from members of both parties in Congress about the deal and anger from Hollywood elites, veteran Wall Street analyst Adney believes that Netflix's acquisition of Warner will not create a true monopoly. He said, "Technology monopolies are difficult to sustain, and there will always be people who find a way to compete. Moreover, streaming services are already fiercely competitive
