The Japanese Self Defense Forces announced on Monday (December 8th) that a Chinese aircraft carrier strike group sailing close to Japan continued intensive air operations in the Pacific Ocean east of the Okinawa Islands on Sunday (December 7th).
According to Reuters, this naval exercise comes at a time when Japan China relations are becoming increasingly tense and has sparked a series of protests. Tokyo accused Beijing of dangerous behavior on Sunday. Japan claimed that the fighter jets on China's Liaoning aircraft carrier used radar to illuminate the Japanese fighter jets that were urgently taking off and tracking their movements.
According to Reuters analysis, radar exposure is one of the most threatening actions that military aircraft can take, which means a potential attack that forces the targeted aircraft to take evasive action.
The Japanese Self Defense Forces stated that the carrier based aircraft on the Liaoning made about 100 takeoffs and landings over the weekend.
Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Toshimitsu Kinohara stated at a regular press conference on Monday that Japan will respond calmly and firmly, and continue to monitor the movements of the Chinese military in the waters surrounding our country.
According to the official website of the Chinese Embassy in Japan, Chinese Ambassador to Japan Wu Jianghao made solemn representations and strong protests to Jianyu Funakoshi on Sunday regarding the disturbance of the Chinese Navy's aircraft carrier formation training by Japanese Self Defense Force planes.
Wu Jianghao said that despite China's repeated warnings and reminders, Japan has insisted on sending Self Defense Force aircraft to repeatedly approach the Chinese Navy for training and disrupt the sea and air areas, seriously affecting China's normal training and endangering flight safety.
Wu Jianghao pointed out that Japan has also turned the tables and released information that is completely inconsistent with the facts, hyping up and misleading public opinion. Such actions are extremely irresponsible. China solemnly demands that Japan stop slandering and smearing, strictly restrain frontline actions, and prevent similar incidents from happening again.
