Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Wednesday (December 10) that Russia and China are steadily ramping up their cooperation.

According to Reuters, Zelenskyy claimed that these measures involve Russia ceding part of its sovereignty to Beijing.

He wrote on social media platform X: "We have noticed that China is taking measures to strengthen cooperation with Russia, including in the military-industrial sector. Partner intelligence agencies have also obtained similar information."

Later, in a video address that evening, Zelenskyy pointed out that the report released by the head of Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service focuses on Russia’s economic situation, revealing Russia’s "growing dependence on China".

He said: "Never before in Russia’s history has there been such a large-scale transfer of sovereignty to China or any other more powerful country."

"It is shocking what a huge price Putin is paying to avoid ending this war. But the world still has sufficient strength to end this war and force Russia to do so."

Prior to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russia and China reached an agreement on a "no-limits, no-ceiling" strategic partnership.

Since then, the two sides have consolidated this agreement through a series of joint statements, including one issued in May this year that announced enhanced cooperation in numerous areas of international relations, including Ukraine and Taiwan.
