In response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s remarks that a referendum is needed on Ukraine’s territorial issues, Dmitry Peskov, Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, stated in a media interview on December 12 local time that Russia is committed to achieving peace, not a truce. He noted that if Ukraine’s proposal is intended as a pretext for a temporary truce and a breathing space, it will not work.
He also emphasized that peace in Ukraine requires reliable guarantees, and it should be a guaranteed, long-term peace that is understood by all parties.
