Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z TriFold: Long-Awaited Triple-Screen Foldable Set for Global Launch
Samsung is doubling down on its foldable dominance with the official debut of the Galaxy Z TriFold, the highly anticipated triple-screen folding smartphone that marks the brand’s third major foldable launch of 2025. Following the July unveilings of the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, the Z TriFold introduces a bold new form factor—though its unique design and premium price point are expected to position it as a niche offering for power users seeking enhanced productivity and immersive entertainment experiences.
The South Korean tech giant announced the groundbreaking device in its home market on Tuesday, highlighting a dual-hinge design that enables the handset to fold inward twice, like a booklet, collapsing into a compact form that protects the internal display. Samsung noted the folding screen is reinforced with an overcoat layered atop a shock-absorbing base to ensure durability, while the device also features smart alerts to prevent improper folding that could cause damage.
Thanks to its dual-hinge architecture, Samsung claims the Z TriFold is the sturdiest and most advanced foldable it has ever produced. The structure minimizes gaps at the fold lines and maintains stability despite the hinges differing in size and weight, and it carries an IP48 rating for water and dust resistance— a reassuring feature for a device with multiple moving parts.
Samsung has prioritized slimness and portability in the Z TriFold’s design: it measures just 3.9mm at its thinnest point when unfolded and 12.9mm when folded, with a total weight of 309 grams. For context, Engadget notes the Galaxy Z Fold7—with its 8-inch main folding screen and 6.5-inch outer display—comes in at 4.2mm unfolded, 8.9mm folded, and weighs 215 grams.
The star feature of the Galaxy Z TriFold is its 10-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X QXGA+ display, which unfolds to tablet size and boasts a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and 1,600 nits of peak brightness. This large panel splits into three independent 6.5-inch sections, allowing users to run multiple apps simultaneously, with Samsung’s One UI optimized for a range of multi-window configurations. Complementing the main display is a 6.5-inch FHD+ cover screen, which also offers a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and an impressive 2,600 nits of peak brightness for clear visibility even in direct sunlight.
Under the hood, the Z TriFold packs flagship-level hardware: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 chip, 16GB of RAM, and storage options of 512GB or 1TB (UFS 4.1 for fast data transfer). Powering the device is a 5,600mAh battery with 45W super-fast wired charging. On the imaging front, it features a versatile triple rear camera system: a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 200-megapixel wide-angle main sensor, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens. Up front, a dual 10-megapixel selfie camera setup handles portrait shots and video calls.
The Z TriFold will enter a competitive multi-folding smartphone space dominated by Chinese rivals like the Huawei Mate XT, which launched globally last year. However, Samsung’s new foldable has a key differentiator: it is slated for release in the U.S.—a market where many Chinese foldables remain unavailable.
Pricing for the Galaxy Z TriFold is expected to start at approximately $2,500, according to Reuters. The device will first launch in South Korea on December 12, with rollouts in China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates to follow shortly after. A U.S. release is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026, though Samsung has not yet shared specific details about pre-orders or carrier availability for the American market.
