闻泰科技董事长:安世半导体纠纷恐引发全球晶片行业动荡.jpg
European chipmaker Nexperia's Chinese parent company, Wingtech Technology, has warned through its chairman Yang Mu that global chip supply remains at risk unless Wingtech regains control over Nexperia.

Yang Mu assumed the role of chairman of Wingtech Technology in July this year, and just two months later, the Nexperia dispute erupted. In an interview published by Bloomberg on Monday (December 22), Yang spoke to international media for the first time since the Nexperia incident began.

In the interview, Yang accused the Dutch government of violating the bilateral investment treaty signed with China and claimed that local Dutch management was attempting to profit from the crisis.

She stated, "Each day this dispute continues deepens the damage to global supply chains, international investment confidence, and shareholders."

Yang denied allegations of improper technology transfers to China and reiterated demands for the restoration of Wingtech’s shareholder rights in Nexperia.

She alleged that the Dutch government and local executives aimed to oust Wingtech, which acquired Nexperia in 2019, describing the Dutch authorities’ forced takeover of Nexperia as a premeditated and unjustified interference.

These remarks highlight deep rifts within Nexperia and have raised concerns about the stability of supplies of critical components for the automotive and consumer electronics industries. Nexperia ships wafers from Europe to Asia for final assembly, with its largest production base located in China—though this facility is currently not cooperating with its parent company.

Although political tensions between China and the Netherlands have somewhat eased, corporate-level disputes persist. One ripple effect is Honda Motor Co.’s warning last week that it plans to temporarily halt production at some plants in Japan and China in the coming weeks due to component shortages.

Yang emphasized that the direct and sole cause of the current supply disruption is the unilateral and unexpected halt of wafer shipments by Nexperia’s Dutch entity.

Although founder Zhang Xuezheng has stepped down as CEO of Wingtech Technology, he remains deeply involved in company affairs. He had initially agreed to be interviewed by Bloomberg, but the interview was subsequently conducted by Yang Mu, who joined Wingtech in 2019.

Yang asserted that actions taken by the Dutch government—including supporting lawsuits against Wingtech—violate a 2001 agreement signed with China.

She noted that the company submitted a notice of dispute on October 15, and if the issue remains unresolved within six months, it may pursue international arbitration and seek compensation, potentially including the approximately USD 8 billion (SGD 10.3 billion) valuation of its stake in Nexperia.

A spokesperson for the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs declined to comment, noting that the case has been referred to the Enterprise Chamber of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal for handling.
