A Russian tourist was apparently confronted by an angry shopkeeper, who chased her out of his shop, as he shouted “Glory Ukraine“. The incident appeared to take place in Tbilisi in Georgia, a country that is a popular holiday destination for Russians.
Georgia suffered a similar fate to Ukraine, when the country was invaded by Russia troops in a short but brutal war in 2008. At the time, Georgia had been seeking closer ties with the West and NATO under its President Mikheil Saakashvili. The confrontation in the shop was filmed on video and then posted to social media channels, where it quickly went viral.
Images show the shopkeeper approaching the Russian tourist and greeting her with the words “Glory Ukraine“.
The woman then asks in Russian how much an item she wants to buy costs. The shopkeeper, switching to Russian, replies that he does not speak her native language.
She then tells him that he obviously does speak Russian, at which point he replies in English: “Can I help you? You don’t speak Georgian?”
After calling her “an occupier”, she retorts “no”. The shopkeeper then plays a song on his mobile phone on loud speaker.
Its lyrics go: “Russian navy ship go f*** yourself, Glory Ukraine….”
The song references a famous incident at the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. A video clip recorded the moment a Russian ship asked for fuel from a Georgian vessel in the Black Sea.
Speaking in English, the Georgian captain asks the other ship to identify its nationality.
On hearing that it is from one of Putin’s fleet, he starts to speak Russian with his interlocutor.
He said: “We refuse to supply your ship.” Invoking the words of the Ukrainians on Snake Island, he added: “Russian ship, go f*** yourself!”
“F***ing occupants,” says his colleague. “What happens if we run out of fuel?”, asks the Russian ship. “Use your oars!”, came the sharp-witted reply.
