In order to enhance its maritime combat capabilities, the German Navy officially received its first NH90 MRFH "Sea Tiger" anti submarine helicopter on Tuesday (December 16), marking a new era in the German Navy's aviation combat capabilities. According to the plan, a total of 30 Sea Tiger helicopters will be stationed at the 5th Naval Aviation Squadron in Nordholz, Lower Saxony, northwestern Germany.
This helicopter designed specifically for frigates will completely replace the "Haishan Cat" helicopter, which has been in service for over 40 years, and become the core sensor and strike platform for German surface vessels. Its deployment will significantly enhance the German Navy's anti submarine and anti surface warfare capabilities in the Baltic Sea, North Sea, and North Atlantic directions.
The Sea Tiger helicopter will collaborate with the future P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft to provide NATO with intensive maritime situational awareness and strengthen monitoring of submarines and critical underwater infrastructure. As military competition intensifies in the Nordic and Baltic waters, this move is crucial for updating the German Navy's combat capabilities and for NATO's deterrence and coordination in the northern waters.
