Beijing time, December 27 — British media reports indicate that Manchester United’s January transfer window is set to be very busy, but unlike the summer window, this one will primarily focus on player sales.
Man Utd Expected to See Multiple Departures in January Window: Academy Players Out on Loan, Zirkzee to Roma
It has been a year since the Portuguese head coach took charge at Old Trafford, and the Red Devils’ squad has undergone significant changes. In the summer window, players such as Rashford, Garnacho, and Antony departed. Given United’s inconsistent Premier League performance, club executives are willing to sell players who have yet to prove themselves in order to raise funds for rebuilding. Additionally, several academy players are also expected to leave.
1. Joshua Zirkzee
According to multiple reports, Zirkzee is poised to join AS Roma soon, and Manchester United is considering the deal. Personal terms are unlikely to be an issue, as the Dutch international hopes to secure more playing time at Roma to boost his chances of featuring in next summer’s World Cup. However, formal negotiations between the two clubs have not yet begun.
2. Tyrell Malacia
At this stage, Malacia’s departure from Old Trafford appears inevitable. His prolonged injury absence has significantly impacted the Dutch left-back’s career at United. He was loaned to PSV Eindhoven in the second half of last season, but only on a short-term basis. His contract with Manchester United expires in June next year.
3. Toby Collyer
Collyer has already been recalled by Manchester United, but once he regains full fitness, he is expected to go out on loan again—his second loan spell of the season. He had been playing for West Bromwich Albion before being recalled to Old Trafford for treatment.
4. Harris Amass
The 18-year-old left-back spent the first half of this season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, where he delivered impressive performances. He has reportedly attracted interest from other Championship clubs. Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday hope to extend his loan until the end of the season as they battle relegation.
5. Diego León
United signed the Paraguayan left-back in July for a fee as high as £7 million. After featuring with the first team in preseason, he has since played only for the academy side. As he continues adapting to English football, sending him out on loan for development would be highly beneficial.
