U.S. media reported that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were “dragged from their bedroom and taken away” by U.S. forces during a raid on Saturday, January 3.

According to Xinhua News Agency, multiple U.S. media outlets cited informed sources to reveal details of the couple’s capture.

CNN reported on Saturday, January 3, citing two informed sources, that U.S. forces launched the raid in the middle of the night while the Maduros were asleep.

According to the Associated Press, the Maduros were seized at their residence inside a military base.

Another U.S. official told CNN that the raid, carried out by U.S. Army Delta Force special operations troops, resulted in no American casualties.

Sources disclosed that a team of FBI agents operated alongside U.S. special forces, and plans had been made to transfer Maduro to New York to face indictment there.

Reports also indicated that Maduro’s whereabouts had been tracked by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Months earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump had already authorized authorities to carry out this covert capture operation inside Venezuela.
